WESSEX Regional Day is celebrated on 25th May 2015. It is also known as St Aldhelm's Day. St Aldhelm was born in the 7th century and became the Abbot of Malmesbury Abbey and the first Bishop Of Sherborne.  He was made a saint after his death and his feast day is the 25th May.

DORSET COUNTY DAY is also known as St Wite's Day and is celebrated on 1st June. The Dorset Flag was chosen by public vote  following a competition to generate designs. It was announced on 16th September 2008. The Wessex flag is known as the Dorset Cross or St Wite's Cross.

The flag also recognises St Wite, a female Dorset saint who is buried at Whitchurch Canonicorum. An Anglo-Saxon holy woman, who was thought to have been martyred by invading Danes in the 9th century.
