The drought is over!
If, like me, you have been counting the days since the football season ended then it’s time to stop pretending you’ve always liked tennis, athletics or beach volleyball because the mighty Premier League is back at last!
On Friday August 11th Arsene Wenger’s much-maligned Arsenal kicked off proceedings by hosting Leicester, who will be trying to recapture their incredible title-winning form of 2015/16. It’s the first time ever a season has begun on a Friday night, which may seem odd to most of us. Then again, the pub landlords were probably thrilled!
The Premier League is home to some of the world’s greatest footballers, from homegrown stars like Delle Ali and Harry Kane of Tottenham Hotspur, to foreign stars such as Man United’s new £75m Belgian signing Romelu Lukaku and Arsenal’s wantaway star Alexis Sanchez. It is generally regarded as the most entertaining football league in the world now and the latest TV rights deal netted The Premier League a staggering £5.14 BILLION!….So British clubs have simply never been so rich and powerful and boy haven’t they been showing it! Traditionally ‘smaller’ clubs like Watford and Burnley have been splashing out on £10-20 million pound purchases as if they’re nothing….How times have changed!
