SHETLAND COUNTY DAY has been held on 21st June since 2007, the day when the Shetland County Flag was recognised. It was introduced by the council to celebrate 'all things Shetland'.

The flag was designed in 1969 by Roy Gronneberg and Bill Adams to commemorate the 500th anniversary of the transfer of Shetland from Norway to Scotland. The colours coming from the Scottish flag and the cross shape from Scandinavian tradition.
