ST ANDREWS DAY - SCOTLAND  November 30th , 2014 The Scottish flag was adopted in the 16th century. According to legend, in 832 A.D. King Oengus (II) (or King Angus) led the Picts and Scots in battle against the Angles, led by a king named Athelstan. King Oengus and his men were surrounded and they prayed for deliverance. During the night Saint Andrew, who had been martyred on a saltaire St Andrews cross, appeared before them and assured Oengus of victory. The following morning a white saltaire appeared against the blue sky background to both sides.  King Oengus and his men took heart from this but the Angles lost confidence and were defeated.  The flag of Scotland has used this design ever since. The St Andrews saltaire is available in flags, bunting, car flags and hand wavers   SHOW YOUR TRUE COLOURS THIS NOVEMBER AND FLY THE FLAG!   Visit our website - www.theflagshop.co.uk - to place an order or telephone us on 01246 297600.
