In the midst of the current global Covid-19 pandemic, society is reeling and striving valiantly to adapt to all the new regulations, alongside the numerous limitations and restrictions on our usual way of life. The economy will inevitably take a huge battering from the events, and phrases like ‘lockdown fever’ and ‘mental well-being’ are more prevalent in everyday conversation than perhaps at any time before.

In times like this it is obviously absolutely crucial that families, groups and communities in general hold together and offer each other support.

As traditional annual events are cancelled en masse due to the pandemic, it would be easy to forget and dismiss some of these - But that is exactly what we should not do! One such example is the upcoming annual Armed Forces Day on June 27th…Armed Forces Day was specifically designed to highlight and honour the work and dedication of our nation’s courageous Servicemen and women, both past and present. The UK Armed Forces bravely defend our nations and all of their respective interests across the globe and have never deserved our gratitude and thanks more. As we all face challenges ahead, we must continue to pull together. We are essentially at war right now, with a deadly virus rather than a foreign nation...But there’s a lot we can take inspiration from from the Armed Forces in the current situation. The media reminds us on a daily basis of the need for solidarity, strength, togetherness and support for our fellow men - All features very much relevant and required of any Armed Forces person!

Recently the cancellation of this year’s National Armed Forces Day event in Scarborough was announced, but that absolutely does not mean it cannot be marked! In fact, we think it’s more important than ever before to do so.. Mark It Anyway!

As the nation proudly did on VE 75 Day earlier last month, we can defiantly celebrate the occasion from our homes, gardens and streets! Oddly, it seemed to carry even more of a message of togetherness and people pulled together in creative ways in spite of the lockdown regulations and social distancing - This can be true for Armed Forces Day too!

The nation’s gardens can be adorned with various Armed Forces flags which proudly display from your fence or walls just how much you appreciate the Armed Forces’ efforts.

The classic 3ft x 2ft Armed Forces Day Flag is a manageable size and comes supplied with two metal eyelets and grommets which mean simple and secure hanging. We do also offer a mid-size 5ft x 3ft Armed Forces Day Flag option, plus the big fella itself, our 8ft x 5ft Armed Forces Day Flag to really mark out your support and wow the neighbours!

Even more handy are Armed Forces hand flags which are ideal for portability and particularly kids! Also Massively popular and looking stylish when draped across fencing and windowsills is our Armed Forces bunting by way of tribute, and quite rightly too…

Fancy getting it done in one go and honouring all the separate Armed Forces factions? The Armed Forces Flag Pack does just this, containing a Royal Air Force, British Army, Royal White Ensign, Union Flag and Armed Forces Day flag so you can tick all of the boxes in one.

Not only do you honour the Armed Forces, but in these tough times where most of us are stuck at home much more than usual, it all adds some lovely colour, cheer and decoration to cheer us all up!

People can also offer their heartfelt support by getting involved online on Facebook and Twitter,  with the official Armed Forces website suggesting that the official twitter handle #SaluteOurForces is an easy and effective way for anyone to pay tribute to the British Armed Forces community for their unswerving hard work & dedication to keep us safe in the UK and across the world. Many plan to send in photos of themselves saluting and we can see this trending like mad, so why not get involved?!

Armed Forces Day is still a very relevant occasion that we must try to mark in spite of the current difficulties. As much as we all undoubtedly value them, this remains the only dedicated day every year that we all come together to explicitly honour our past and present troops. With the available selection of Armed Forces flags, hand flags and bunting, you can still pay your respects from your home and garden, so let’s refuse to let this pandemic ruin everything and honour our heroes appropriately!
