This years Eurovision Song Contest Final will be held in Vienna, Austria on 23rd May. This follows Austria's win in 2014 with Conchita Wurst with the song 'Rise Like A Phoenix'. Conchita will be part of the host team on the night. The UK will be represented by Electro Velvet with their song 'Still In Love With You'.
The Eurovision Song Contest is one of the longest running television shows in the world. It was on 24th May 1956, that Europe saw the first ever Eurovison Song contest held in Lugano in Switzerland. Only seven countries participated and each country was allowed to sing two songs, no longer than 3 and a half minutes long. All the performers were led by a 24 piece orchestra!!
Since then over 1400 songs have 'taken part' in the contest with Ireland recording the most wins with 7, Luxembourg, France, Sweden and the UK have 5 wins each. Its a different story for Norway who have finsished with NIL points 11 times.
Fast forward 60 years to Vienna who will be hosting the contest for the second time. For the 60th anniversay celebrations, Australia will be taking part for the first time - their song 'Tonight Again' will be sung by Guy Sebastian.
