The 2023 Armed Forces Day National Event on Saturday June 24th will be hosted in Falmouth, Cornwall, offering the whole UK a chance to celebrate and pay tribute to our Armed Forces. Current service members, families of those serving, Reservists, veterans and cadets are all invited to join in the festivities in Cornwall and various events and activities will be taking place such as a military parade, live music, marching bands, military displays and fireworks. But for now back to the main event itself....It is expected to be a truly stirring and memorable public show set in the stunning backdrop of Cornwall's third largest natural harbour, which is also home to the iconic old tyrant Henry VIII's Pendennis Castle!
Swathes of serving personnel and veterans from all over the country are anticipated to be in Falmouth for the events which will see many military personnel and their families join the festivities. There will be parades, flag raisings and even a flypast too!
The confirmed plans include:
- Opening ceremony and salute with Fly-past
- A spectacular Military Village showcasing vehicles, equipment and interactive display
- A full military parade through the streets of Falmouth involving regular and reserve personnel from all three services, veterans and cadets
- Entertainment, activities and displays throughout the town
- Opportunities to meet with armed forces charities and organisations to learn about their work and the support they can provide
- A rare chance to see air force, army and naval assets close up
- Air displays over the glorious views of Falmouth Bay
- A Proms-style music concert at the iconic Pendennis Castle to celebrate and thank our armed forces
- Fireworks over Falmouth Harbour to finish off proceedings with a bang!
People from all corners of Cornwall are invited to join in on the pre-event buzz and show their support for this special event.
Since its beginnings in 2006, this event has cemented its position as a significant occasion on the armed forces calendar. It enables serving personnel and veterans to come together in celebration of their achievements, providing the public with an opportunity to join in the festivities and we think that’s something that should always be marked.
